Subject: CEFR and ESL Fast Levels

Dear ESL Fast Community Member,

A new semester has started! One thing you may have noticed is that we reset the reward scores on August 18. If your score was over 500, it was reset to 500. A new competition has now begun.

Leaderboard Highlights

We have fixed some issues with score calculation, so the new scores should be fairer for everyone.

Congratulations to Paul Pham from Vietnam for taking the top position! We are also glad to see LI Li, Ahmed Mones, and Ali Noman, who were among the top 15 in the previous competition, remain on the list. Keep up the good work! We hope to see your names here throughout the new semester.

The leaderboard is updated once a day at Midnight Eastern Time. If you are in New York, for example, your leaderboard will be updated at midnight local time. You can use this to determine when the update occurs in your own time zone. Watch for changes in the rankings!

What's New

Over the past two weeks, we made an important decision: all ESL Fast features are now available to users with a free membership, except ad removal.

If you want to remove ads, you can do so for a small fee of $5 per month.

After you sign in to your account, you can access these features:

  • Train your reading speed by recognizing sense groups
  • Create your own vocabulary lists for each lesson
  • Access ESL Robot 5 as your personal tutor
  • Have your study time recorded
  • Allow your teacher or parent to check your study time records and progress

ESL Fast Features for Teachers and Students

If you are an ESL/EFL teacher, you may want to encourage your students to do more after-class study by offering extra credit. For example, you could ask students to do more extensive reading at ESL Fast.

If students add your email address to their accounts, you can check when, how long, and what they have studied.

If you are a student and truly want to improve your English quickly, talk to your teacher to see whether they would be willing to offer extra credit and monitor your study time records.

CEFR and ESL Fast Levels

CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is an internationally recognized system for describing language proficiency. It divides language ability into six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.

Some, but not all, reading passages at ESL Fast are classified into six levels. However, these ESL Fast levels do not correspond exactly to the six CEFR levels. The following is a rough guide to help you choose appropriate reading materials:

  • Super Easy / Levels 1–2 → A1–A2
  • Levels 3–4 / Graded Reading 1–2 → B1
  • Levels 5–6 / Graded Reading 3–4 → B2
  • Graded Reading 5 (Sciences) → C1

We hope these features will help you make ESL Fast a regular part of your English learning or teaching this semester.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes,
