Technology today is changing the way people see and experience the world. Two exciting technologies are Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). Although they sound similar, they are different in how they work and how people use them.
Virtual Reality (VR) creates a completely new digital world. When you use VR, you usually wear special headsets that cover your eyes. These headsets block out the real world and show you a computer-made world instead. In VR, you can look around, walk, or play games as if you are inside a new place. For example, you can explore the surface of Mars, play sports in a virtual stadium, or practice flying a plane. Everything you see and hear in VR is not real but is designed by computers.
Augmented Reality (AR), on the other hand, does not replace the real world. Instead, it adds digital images, sounds, or information on top of what you see around you. A good example is the mobile game Pokémon Go, where players can see Pokémon characters on the streets through their phone screens. Some shopping apps also use AR to let people see how furniture or clothes will look in real life before they buy them. With AR, you are still in the real world, but you see extra digital details added to it.
In short, the main difference is that VR takes you into a new digital world, while AR brings digital objects into your real world. Both technologies are powerful and fun. VR is great for learning, training, and games, while AR is useful for daily life, shopping, education, and navigation. Together, AR and VR are changing how humans connect with both reality and technology.
