214. Summer School
It was the first week of June. Gabi
finished her third year of high school in
Sereno. However, when she received her report card
the mail, she learned that she failed a
of algebra. This meant she had to go
summer school.
Gabi was glad she had the
to make up the class. She can't move
to the next level in math if she
't pass algebra. Summer school isn't easy though. Gabi
to master the material in 6 weeks instead
the 20 she had during the regular school
.
Summer school also meant that Gabi would be
in a hot classroom while most of her
were at the beach or local amusement parks.
friends passed algebra, so they had most of
, July, and August free from school work. Going
summer school also meant that Gabi's family had
change their summer vacation plans.
Gabi had to
in summer school from 9 a.m. to noon.
couldn't stay up late on weeknights or sleep
. She had to be on the bus at
an hour before class started or else she
be late. The classrooms were hot since the
building was old and did not have air
. When Gabi came home from school, she couldn't
whatever she wanted. After Gabi took the bus
from school, she had homework to do.
This
the first time Gabi had to go to
school. She wanted it to be the last
. Gabi made a promise to herself. In the
, when regular classes begin again, she will try
hardest to pass. Sweating in a classroom while
friends are out having a good time is
fun. Summer break is not so much of
break when you have school.
